Students on strike

On Friday 15th March 2019 school children skipped school (= saltato la scuola) to strike against (= scioperare contro) climate change in more than 100 countries around the world.
They are unhappy that their governments are doing too little to fight climate change.
The strikes are part of a growing international movement called "School Strike for Climate".

Instead of going to school, students across the globe have skipped classes (= saltato le lezioni) to take part in street protests. Many of the protests have been outside government buildings.

The movement began in August 2018 when the Swedish student Greta Thunberg stood outside Sweden's government every Friday. She held a sign that read: "School strike for climate".

Her climate strike has inspired thousands of other young people across the world to carry out similar protests.

She told Rolling Stone magazine that the first woman to inspire her was Rosa Parks. "I learned she was an introvert, and I'm also an introvert," says Greta.
Talking about Rosa Parks, Greta explained how "one person can make such a huge difference."
