Doping in sport

Watch this commercial: it was aired in 2014 during the winter Olympic Games.
It conveys (= trasmette) a significant and touching message; it makes us aware of the key role that our moms - and our family - have and highlights (=sottolinea) the support and care they give us every day.

The commercial also suggests that hard work is the key to success. Some athletes, however, cheat  and use illegal drugs to improve their performances and results.

Doping is the use of illegal substances to improve performance and sporting results.
There are different types of doping: athletes take stimulants such as amphetamines and anabolic steroids or use blood doping.
Sportspeople take stimulants to become more competitive and make more money.
Doping is bad because it has serious side effects: it may/might cause heart disease, cancer and addiction.
Fred Lorz, Knud Enemark, Lance Armstrong and Ben Johnson have become notorious because they used stimulants to win.
